Welcome To District Science Centre, Purulia

District Science Centre, Purulia is the first district level science centre, under National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, started her journey on 15th December 1982. Since inception it is working for dissemination of science to all strata of society so that the benefits of scientific advancements may reach to each and everyone to ensure the development of society in true sense. With its continuous efforts for inclusive science communication, it has found deep penetration in the society with more than 2 Lac visitors from the backward areas of Jangalmahal as well as from neighboring state Jharkhand.

District Science Centre, Purulia (DSC, Purulia) is located on the bank of famous Nibaran Sayer,  (Saheb bandh)- a National Pond, in one corner of Purulia town. Beside this natural aesthetic beauty, the main attractions of the centre are Dinosaurs Park, 3D Theater, Science Shows (Super Cold Show-Showing low temperature properties of matter), Amazing Chemistry, Unexpected Science, Taramandal Shows and Sky Observation through Telescope.

The centre has galleries on Popular Science, Wealth of Purulia, Life Science and a Children’s Corner. The gallery on “Wealth of Purulia” depicts the unique flora and fauna of Jangalmahal including its indigenous cultural heritage. The central theme of the gallery is the biodiversity, dialects, customs, traditions and culture of the people of Jangalmahal. In the Popular Science Gallery one can learn through fun, the principles of various scientific topics. In Life Science Gallery one can know various activities of life through the interaction with exhibits. Children’s corner is highly attractive among the children where they can learn the basic science through different playing instruments. All along the visit the visitors can touch and feel the objects and participate in order to stimulate their inquisitive mind.

Opening Hours

The Centre remains open for visitors from 10-00 a.m. to 6-30 p.m. every day, except on ‘Holi’ and ‘Diwali’.

Ticket counter closes at 6-00 p.m.
